Two new additions to TMD Friction’s senior management team announced

TMD Friction has announced the appointment of two senior managers, boosting its leadership team as it continues to implement ambitious plans for growth.

The Hartlepool-based global automotive manufacturer has appointed Sam Kirtley into the role of UK Finance Director, joining the business having previously worked for Gestamp in Newton Aycliffe.

Joining her is Helen Robinson, who is the company’s new HR Manager for the UK, replacing Jenny Wright who has been promoted into a global role

Helen brings a wealth of HR experience with her, having worked at a senior level for companies within the North East and Yorkshire.

Sam said: “Investment in the finance team within TMD Friction UK comes at such an exciting time for the business, as further investment is committed by the group to support the ongoing expansion of the Hartlepool plant.

“I am relishing the challenges and opportunities that come with the job and feel my experience and expertise will support our journey to becoming a leader within the global structure.”

Helen, who lives in Northumberland, started with TMD Friction in January and is leading on the recruitment of a number of office, production and engineering appointments to ensure the company has the right people in place to support growth plans for the months ahead.

Helen said: “It’s been a whirlwind few months since I started in my role but my team has been so supportive, helping me to settle in and understand the many systems and processes that a multi-national company like TMD has in place.

“As you’d imagine, the HR functions of a company of this size are significant but I’m already seeing how rewarding the job is and am thoroughly enjoying it.

“Our biggest challenge is adapting to the evolving global landscape which is changing how we deliver the HR functions within TMD. My priority is to implement stability, flexibility and engagement which will reinforce our position as an employer of choice.”

TMD Friction is a global manufacturer of brake pads, with the Hartlepool plant producing pads for 95 per cent of the models for Europe’s aftermarket, including emergency services vehicles and many of the major distribution small trucks and vans.

TMD Friction, which has its only UK production facility in Hartlepool, has been making parts for the passenger car aftermarket since 1974 and now employs 508 people at its Hartlepool factory.

Tom Russell, UK Operations Manager, said: “Sam and Helen’s appointments onto the leadership team come at a hugely important time for the business, as we continue to benefit from significant investment which is facilitating the continued expansion of the Hartlepool plant and the recruitment of new colleagues to support our ambitious plans for growth over the coming months.”
