Peterlee business receives grant to replace compressor at its factory

Aldona Seals, which are based in Peterlee Industrial Estate, has received a grant from BEEP to help fund the install of a replacement compressor at its factory.

Aldona are specialists in compression and injection moulding of rubber and plastics, including bio-degradable, products. Selling to over 30 countries across multiple industries Aldona manufacture a diverse range of bespoke rubber, bio-degradable elastomers and plastic components.

The business reached out to BEEP in March 2020, and following an energy audit several efficiency measures were identified which could lead to reduced running costs for the business. Top of the list was their old compressor, which was inefficient as well as no longer able to meet the factory’s demand for compressed air.

Their new compressor is superior the old one, with variable speed feature which can alter the air pressure to match demand. The install, which was carried out by local contractor Wearside pneumatics, is expected to reduce their electricity consumption by over 30 000kWh each year, saving around £4000 on their energy bills.

John Lambert, Aldona Seals Director, said “The new compressor is fully up and running and the energy savings are even more important now as the cost of energy escalates. We were very impressed with the energy survey report that we received from BEEP and we are now looking at new opportunities to further reduce our carbon footprint.”

If you would like to know more about how to cut energy costs and reduce your business carbon footprint contact or apply now for a fully funded audit.

The Business Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Durham County Council. It runs until the end of March 2023 and provides eligible SMEs in County Durham with a fully funded energy efficiency audit, written report, and grants to help part fund energy efficiency capital expenditure.
