My Down Time: Lindsay Burnham

Down time to me means spending time with family and friends, giving them my full attention.

Lindsay Burnham is a marketing professional who runs her own consultancy business, Label Marketing.

Everyone needs a decent work-life balance, so in each issue we’ll be finding out what relieves that executive stress and helps business owners and managers find that all important down time.

EDB: What does ‘down time’ mean for you?
LB: Down time to me means spending time with family and friends, giving them my full attention. When you are a business owner it’s not always easy to achieve but as long as you find the right balance it can be done. As one of my close friend’s said recently, ‘life is not a dress rehearsal’.

EDB: Saturday night – in or out?
LB: Definitely out! I am a work-hard-play-hard kind of person and enjoy getting dressed up and going out for food or drinks or preferably both! When I was younger I was miserable if I wasn’t out on a Saturday night – I haven’t changed much!

EDB: You’re having a dinner party – what would be on your menu?
LB: I love to cook so to start with would be scallops with chorizo followed by slow cooked beef and then lemon posset. When preparing for a dinner party I like to choose things I can make ahead or cook quickly once my guests have arrived.

EDB: Who would be on the dream guest list?
LB: Gary Vaynerchuk, so I could pick his brains about marketing, Elizabeth Taylor for gossip from the Golden Age of Hollywood, Alan Carr to entertain, Emmaline Pankhurst to find out what it was like to make real changes for women that I benefit from today, and George Clooney – do I need a reason?

EDB: What music would we find in your car?
LB: My friends cringe at my taste in music but I love any kind of dance music, in particular Ibiza classics or Ministry of Sound and I always have it at a very high volume!

EDB: What was the last concert you went to?
LB: Unsurprisingly from my previous answer it was Pete Tong and the Heritage Orchestra’s Ibiza Classics. It was full of people a similar age to me who now have responsibilities and go straight home rather than onto the next club!

EDB: What’s your favourite holiday destination?
LB: I went to Seychelles last year and loved it. It is a beautiful place and the people are so friendly. The beaches are completely unspoilt and if you find the ones that are really secluded, it’s absolute paradise.

EDB: Where in the world would you love to visit that you’ve not been to?
LB: There are so many places on my wish list but I would love to visit Singapore. I’m really interested in the cultural blend of old and new and I wouldn’t say no to a cocktail or two at Raffles Hotel.

EDB: What was the last film you watched?
LB: My husband and I went to see The Gentleman. My favourite film is Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels so anything in that vein or by Guy Ritchie and I am on board.

EDB: And finally… high street or high end?
LB: Both! I don’t believe in spending a lot of money on items which are on-trend but I always look for quality no matter where I buy it from.
