HR BLOG: Tribunal decisions to go public

In case you needed another reason to not want your business in a Tribunal….

…From yesterday (February 9th) all employment tribunal judgments will be accessible online via the website.

From that point onwards therefore, anybody with an internet connection will have access to the judgments made about your business including relevant information about your inner HR workings. Whilst greater transparency in the justice system is to be welcomed, this move does put businesses participating in a Tribunal case at risk of damaging their brand. Especially if the judgment goes against them.

Again, these details are available to anybody with an internet connection. This includes other employees (causing knock-on claims), and the press on the hunt for a story. Businesses caught in a spiral of bad publicity may find it difficult to source talent.

The best thing you as an employer can do is to not put yourself at risk of being taken to Tribunal. Easier said than done? Ask The HR Dept for a free HR Healthcheck to see what changes you might need to make.

If you were to be taken to Tribunal by a disgruntled employee, our Employment Tribunal Insurance will cover the costs + award if you’ve followed our advice. It also includes as standard Crisis Communications Cover, giving you access to expert PR support in response to any negative press.
